Real Food also means food safety at all times. From the time that our suppliers source ingredients through to the printed cooking instructions on pack, our systems ensure that you, the consumer, are protected.
Achieving food safety involves integration of multiple layers of the supply chain using principles such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) that were originally developed for the NASA Space Missions in the 1960s. It is a compliment to the scientific approach at that time that the principles are still applied worldwide today.
Suppliers are audited and are required to meet our strict food safety criteria in order to manufacture Own brand products. All our Depots and Distribution systems achieve the International ISO 22000 Food Safety standards. Our retail stores also meet our Retail food safety standards through independent auditing by EIQA. We have testing programmes in place to check the microbiological levels in finished products thereby assuring their quality.
In the event of a food safety issue we have systems in place on a 24/7 basis to inform retailers, consumers and Regulators immediately so that any affected products are identified and removed from sale efficiently. We also maintain close co-ordination with the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, HSE, Department of Agriculture, Forestry and the Marine and other agencies.
Food safety is a global issue so the Food safety & quality team is continuously monitoring events around the world to ensure that any potential risks to consumers are identified and managed.
